Single Sputnik Sinkers for those who rather choose and purchase their fishing weights their way!
Proudly Handcrafted in the USA by a family that loves Pier Fishing and has a passion for Surf Fishing.
Each one of our fishing sinkers is visually inspected for superior craftsmanship and undesirable imperfections.
Our fishing weights are made using high-quality high strength stainless-steel components and 98% Pure Lead.
Our Long Tail Sputnik sinkers are designed for long cast Pier and Surf Fishing. (It's our Passion)
We use torsion straightened stainless-steel wire for extra holding strength and for obvious safety reasons available in 2-12oz with or without rollers.
The Sinkers shape and weight make it aerodynamic for ultimate casting distance with little wind resistance.
The legs hold solid and when properly pulled to retrieve them the arms disengage from their respective slots and swing outward once they release they make the retrieval so much easier meaning you are not having to fight the sinkers weight and legs as you bring them in to re-bait your hook.
The wire arms or legs of a Sputnik fishing weight release, and break free from their respective slots whenever sufficient pulling pressure is applied which makes them easier to retrieve when compared to any other fishing weight especially those commonly known and very popular Spider Weights or Claw Fishing Weights mainly used for Pier and Surf Fishing.
The mere advantage of their breakaway or folding wire arms is that it’s far easier to reel the Sputnik sinker in, than if the wires were in a fixed position like on the more commonly used spider weights, meaning you don't have to fight with the sinkers leg digging themselves back in during the retrieve.
The legs have to be reset before casting back out.
Long Tail Sputnik Surf Fishing Weights
Proudly made in the USA by a family that loves fishing.
Made using high-strength high-quality components
We prefer to use and sell our sinkers with a long tail wire because it offers some advantages over the short tail version Sputnik Sinkers.
Legs are made from Stainless-Steel wire which is bent to achieve desired spider shape, which you can easily modify with a pair of pliers to suit your needs (cut down to a smaller length for easier retrieval or put a small bend near the tip of the legs for even better holding strength).
We encourage you to experiment with the leg's position and angles so that they can work for your very own specific needs.
You can cast these sinkers a long way and still hold on the bottom real good if properly used.(Up Tide fishing), they work extremely well when casting larger baits or when fishing with a rod that can't handle casting a heavier pyramid weight that's typically used under tidal more turbulent conditions.
It's stainless-steel legs lock in place and bury themselves anchoring the bottom especially well on sandy and muddy bottoms on turbulent and tidal conditions and release under pressure such as when a fish hits or when you decide to reel it in to switch your bait, and let's not forget if your line gets heavily loaded with seaweed or trash.
At certain times a Sputnik/Spider weight is the best option for holding bottom with your bait. When ready to retrieve your sinker/rig combination simply reel up any slack on your rod/reel apply pulling pressure and the legs will snap/break free from the groves that are incorporated into the sinkers body allowing for an easy retrieval.
As with anything else there is a learning curve with these style sinkers if you haven't used these style sinker before, you can tighten the leg pressure for more holding power or soften the leg pressure for an easier release. They do have their Pros and Cons.
Let's start with the Cons:
It will occasionally get tangled with your leader line when casting long leaders.
They are a bit bulky due to wire lengths and will require some adaptation on your end for storage purposes.
They do tend to collect more debris due to their holding strength and will eventually "crawl" with the current once they become heavily entangled with items such as seaweed and or trash.
Legs can become dangerous when landing a bigger "thrashing/shaking" fish. Watch out for those wire legs!
Pros:
Allows for easier retrieval when compared to a normal "Claw" style sinker since the legs break free when a fish hits or when reeling it in once properly configured.
They provide our fellow anglers with a much better bottom grip/holding strength (weight ratio) when compared to other weights such as pyramids, Hurricanes.
Allows usage of a lighter rated rod while providing good casting distance and holding strength.
Can be easily modified to suit your style and needs.(WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO MODIFY IT) so that it can suit your very own style and needs.
Choose a sinker weight that is appropriate to your rod and needs.
We can make them with longer legs if needed or a softer wire as long as it's reasonable but it might interfere with shipping time, we suggest that if you are interested to please contact us first!!!
