Our Fishing Story: Family, Friends & LeadSlinger Sinkers

Updated: 19 hours ago

Fishing has always been more than a hobby for us - it's a way of life.

We remember one summer evening at a small fishing pier in Texas City. The sun was setting, rods were in the holders, and out of nowhere, my reel's clicker started screaming, and our youngest yelled, “I got one!” A solid black drum (AKA Big Ugly) bent the rod and brought the whole pier to life. Moments like that are why we fish - not just for the catch, but for the memories.

Why Fishing Means So Much to Us

Fishing brings people together in a way few things can. We’ve spent countless days on the beach with family, sharing snacks, swapping stories, and casting lines into the surf. But it’s not just about relatives - some of our closest friends are people we met out on the sand. That’s the heart of LeadSlinger’s: building connections through fishing.

We're passionate about teaching others, especially newcomers to the sport. There’s nothing better than watching someone catch their first fish - whether it's a child learning to cast or an adult reeling in a personal best.

Favorite Spots Along the Gulf & Florida Coast

We love surf fishing the Gulf Coast and spend a lot of time at local beaches and fishing piers. But a few spots have our hearts:

These beaches are more than destinations - they are where our stories begin.

The Gear That’s Always With Us

Out there in the surf, you need gear that won’t let you down. That’s why we created LeadSlinger’s Surf Fishing Sinkers -handmade weights designed for real-world performance.

Our sinkers are:

  • Cast-ready and surf-tested

  • Made in the USA

  • Built for holding in current without rolling

Whether you’re tossing bait into choppy Gulf waters or soaking lines in Florida’s sand troughs, our sinkers help you fish confidently.

Who we are

We are a family-owned business.

Married to the love of my life for 20+ years (that's my fishing and business partner, always willing to go fishing anywhere in our beloved Texas Gulf Coast)

And I must admit that we love to go fishing every chance we get; let's just say that the weather, tides, and conditions won't stop us.

Even though they play a considerable role, meaning that you're either just fishing or actually catching.

As time allows, we will be sharing and adding information on what tackle and gear we have used over the years, which we have enjoyed during a lot of our adventures.

Fishing from anywhere around your typical fishing pier, jetties, and sandy beaches to the rough and snag-prone areas covered by old structures, oyster beds, and rocks.

2 oz Oval Sputnik Sinker
2 oz Oval Sputnik Sinker for those who use lighter rods

Some of our items, such as this Oval Sputnik Sinker for fishing, which we use under most conditions.

They have helped us keep our baits holding on the bottom and have allowed us to catch and not just fish!

We prefer their use since they allow us to fish using small- to medium-sized baits on those light-rated fishing poles.

As avid anglers ourselves, we are aware of the price we have to pay to enjoy the sport, and because of that reason, we began making our very own fishing sinkers and fishing rigs.

Our items are

Proudly handcrafted in the USA by a family that loves fishing. Every Sinker is thoroughly and visually inspected for superior craftsmanship and imperfections. Using high-quality, high-strength stainless-steel components and 98% pure lead. Our Long Tail Sputnik Sinkers' main use is for long-cast pier and surf fishing. Short Tail Sputnik Sinkers are available upon request. We use torsion-straightened stainless-steel wire for extra holding strength, available with or without rollers. While trying to keep costs at a reasonable price!

After all, a lot of us like to get the most out of our $$$, so we can have a bit more to fund our fishing adventures.
